š„ What happened
Microsoft dropped pricing for its RTX Spark PCs at San Francisco Tech Week: the Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,600, and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box at $6,000. The $5,900 top model is already sold out.
š” Why it matters
The machines run AI models locally and for free, with beefed-up cooling and unified memory. Windows 11 also gets "Execution Containers" to sandbox AI agents. Microsoft is even offering up to $1,000 off to poach MacBook Pro developers.
ā” Our take
$6,000 for a workstation that runs local models? That's a luxury flex, not a mass-market play. Microsoft is betting devs will pay upfront rather than bleed cloud costs.
